How are instructors trained?

Friskis Brussels regularly organises instructor tests to select potential instructors. The successful candidates then follow a high quality instructor’s education programme in Sweden.

The first “step” of their training is theoretical, focusing on anatomy, physiology, leadership as well as the Friskis&Svettis concept and values. The second “step” is more practical. They learn how to put together a class, how to use the music and rhythms in indoor classes and how to use different movements for outdoor classes. Both “steps” include 1-2 training classes per day. The whole process, from selection test to becoming an instructor takes eight to ten months.

After these two steps, the future instructor has to put together a one-hour class, with his/her own music and movements. He/she has to present his/her class to a certified graduator who takes the final decision if the person is qualified to become an instructor. Every third semester, each instructor passes a so-called “quality control” where the instructor receives feedback on his/her class from an experienced and specially- trained follow-up coach, in order to keep up to the set standards.
